Nice comparative and superlative

Forming regular comparatives and superlatives. The form depends on the number of syllables in the original adjective. One syllable adjectives.


Add -er for the comparative and -est for the superlative. Comparative adjectives are used to compare one noun to another noun.

In these instances, only two items are being compared. For example, someone might say that "the blue bird is angrier than the robin. Superlative adjectives are used to compare three or more nouns. We use the with superlative adjectives: It was the happiest day of my life.


Everest is the highest mountain in the world. That’s the best film I have seen this year. I have three sisters: Jan is the oldest and Angela is the youngest.

When we want to compare two or more nouns using adjectives, we use the comparative and superlative forms of the adjective to show the comparison between the nouns. Honey is sweet, sugar is sweeter but victory is the sweetest. If we want to talk about a quality which is smaller in amount relative to others, we use the forms less (the opposite of comparative more ), and the least (the opposite of superlative the most ). The irregular forms in comparative adjectives are the same for superlative adjectives. Nicest is an adjective. So the superlative form of far is ( the) furthest, bad becomes the worst and good is the best. The positive degreeof an adjective is the simplest form of that particular adjective.


Double the consonant when forming its superlative : big – bigger – thebiggest. NOTE: In a sentenceyouuse ‘the’ in front of the superlative. If so, this lesson is for you.


It’s formed by using “more” or “-er”. It is based on the best practices of the English Grammar.


As such, if we want to compare ( comparative ) the height of two persons, we would say: “ Henri is taller than Rita. NOT Henri is more tall than Rita.

This lesson is more interesting than that one. As the name implies, a comparative adjective compares two things. I am stronger than you are. A superlative adjective compares more than two things by showing which is the “most” or “-est”.
